Last week we wrote about a mugging in the Lakewood Balmoral neighborhood. Below is some additional information that was obtained from last night’s CAPS meeting at the Benezazian branch of the Chicago Public Library (1226 W Ainsle). It appears this was not an isolated incident and more details were released of the assailant.
“Hello neighbors, we learned at this evening’s CAPS meeting of 6 recent assaults on Andersonville streets from the 5300 block of N. Glenwood, north to the 1400 blocks of W. Balmoral and Rascher Avenues.
The offender is believed to be acting alone, and is described as an African American male, approximately 180 lbs. wearing a braided hairstyle. He is believed to travel to our area via the Berwyn Red Line stop. He has been known to push his victims to the ground and rob them of I-pods, wallets, etc. These events have ocurred in the late evening and early morning hours.
As more information becomes available, we will try to get it out to you. No one should be walking alone in the early morning hours, and no one should be distracted by their electronic devices. Those who do are making themselves easy targets.
